The simplicity of the design with every element of the time transmitter clearly visible, the action of the mechanism is self-explaining. Two dry cells or 3 volts is needed for the time transmitter and one additional cell for each dial, thus a system as in your photo needs only 4-1/2 volts. ![]() The Synchronome system is an electrical "daisy-chain" with the time transmitter electromagnets and all slave or secondary dials connected in series. There are many adjustments and all interact. They are incredibly accurate and stable if securely fastened to a substantial wall. Synchronome time transmitters were made from early 1900 until as late as 1960. Home-made examples do not have the NRA plate or the small parts used with the NRA device. And, for a period, opened their factory shop on holidays and week ends to amateur builders. The Synchronome company offered "kits" of parts partly machined to amateur builders along with diagrams, plans and instructions. Factory made have examples a serial number stamped in the lower edge of the Normal-Advance-Retard (NRA) plate.
